Health Psychologist
Dr Alicia Carter is an Academic and psychologist whom works as Lecturer at Central Queensland University, teaching in both the Honours and Masters of Psychology Courses. Alicia holds professional registration with AHPRA and is linked to research lab groups through the University of Queensland and Central Queensland University. In 2021, Alicia completed a PhD examining the efficacy of Compassion Focused Therapy as a treatment for Body Weight Shame in people with a BMI greater than 30.
Alicia has a broad range of interests and uses a range of therapeutic models suitable for both individual and group therapy. Whilst Alicia’s therapeutic style is aimed to treat anxiety, depression, stress, trauma and chronic pain along with body and weight concerns such as body dysmorphia, obesity and body weight shame. She is also interested in assisting with non-diagnostic areas such as those experiencing bullying, relationship struggles, as well as grief and loss.
In addition to clinical practice, Alicia continues to research the field of health psychology, specifically how compassion focused therapy can be used to assist individuals with nutritional, eating, body or health related concerns (body weight shame, lymphedema, and diabetes). Alicia has the capacity to see both adults and adolescents.
Alicia is an Ally and very happy to work with those in the LGBTQIA+ community as well as those who are in polyamorous or open relationships.
